Zirconium-89 radionuclide is dispensed as Monday calibration in Europe and Asia.

⁸⁹Zr is particularly suitable for PET imaging of internalizing mAbs. ⁸⁹Zr-immuno-PET can offer excellent sensitivity and accurate quantification of mAbs or mAb-fragments in pre-clinical in vivo models. ⁸⁹Zr's physical half-life of 78.4 hr matches the biological half-life of a mAb, as well as the time it needs to perfectly reach optimal target-to-non-target ratios. Literature suggests that PET image quality is not disturbed by the decay of this residualizing isotope.

Zr-89 contains residual quantities of ⁸⁸Y (t_1/2=106.6 days) and ⁸⁸Zr (t_1/2=83.4 days) and must be discarded in accordance with all applicable local regulations.
